Cradle

Hey guys, sorry I haven't update in a while. Been really insanely busy with uni work and part-time job and stuff :(....so i haven't really been painting anything much in the past few months.

This is somewhat inspired by =PaleMajesty's skin practice piece. If any of you have known me from my old account you would know that I used to really love painting dark, very desaturated paintings. Then I moved on to painting mostly with really rich, deep, intense colours and found myself addicted to it :o, and now i'm scared of painting desaturated stuff again because I don't want my paintings to look 'dull' and washed out. So this is pretty much an exercise in trying to paint something fairly desaturated but at the same time tried not to be too grey

3 hours in PS CS3 (i originally intended it to be an hour's speedpainting D:)
I usually don't save steps for paintings this quick but i got two :p [link]

Vampness photomanip paintover tutorial

basically it's more like a demonstration of how a photo can be painted over and manipulated to make it look like a ' painting'. Nothing much here just fooling around :p. Took only a few hours. All the steps are explained in the subtitles in the video. Done with Photoshop CS3

original image
http://longstock.deviantart.com/art/red-and-black-gown-15-close-up-35242876

text, for those who cannot read fast enough:
- smudged the skin using round brushes at 20% strength and hair with spackled brush at around 69% strength
-filled the background with a neutral grey colour
-made a new layer, set the layer blending mode to Soft Light and brushed some light blue over the skin and some reddish brown along the hairline and the hair at the back
-painted over the face and neck, removed dark circles and blemishes, and generally smoothed out the skin
-used the Liquify tool to nudge and slim down the face shape, jawline, raise cheekbones, enlarge the eyes and raised the eyebrows.Dodged in and painted over the irises.
-painted over the face and hair. Changed the head shape and used even more of the Liquify tool to slim down the torso area.
- made another layer, fill it with a neutral grey colour and set that layer to Overlay. Used layer mask to erase out the area on the skin and hair
- made another layer and set that layer's blending mode to Colour. Used a medium soft round brush in blue to tone down the orange. Set the layer opacity to about 60%
- made another layer and this time the blending mode is set to Normal. Painted over the shoulder and arms to smooth them out.
- painted in eyelashes, highlighted the nose, lips and face using round brushes set to Normal and Colour Dodge modes
- fill in the background, Done.

Dusk

this is pretty much like a cross between something I want to do for a header to decorate the layouts of my other sites(like Shadowness, MySpace...etc....and probably cgsociety when i get a subscription to them) and a speedpainting/practice with lighting/skintones (although it is not as speedy as I'd like it to be :/)

errrrrr
yeah, and it's supposed to be a guy...what can I say, I like androgynous guys :P

Kayness pixel IDness

okay, so there's a trend going around dA with all these video game kinda avatars and such :P so here I am with my piece. ha, who said I'm immune to trends? :o

this is the first time I ever tried pixel art. I have a feeling I'm never meant to be a pixel artist o_O. Oh, and it serves to confirm my feeling as to why I hate(and suck at) doing self portraits. I painted myself and the reference is my reflection in my makeup compact.....it was only the end that I realised how fucktardtastic I look, and to start again is such a bleep, so I ran it through glow filter to make it a little bit less painful to look at o_O

I arm myself with claws as a reference to my favourite character class in Diablo II:LoD, the Assassin. and because I never managed to defeat the Harrogath Ancients in Nightmare mode, I never got those super 1337 Scissors Suwayyahs :(

Maiko

Originally painted the traditional maiko makeup on the character's face, though I later decided against it but still want to keep the title anyway...it is yet another attempt to immerse 2D & 3D elements together with lots of Far Eastern, more specifically, Japanese influence

initially started out in PS7 but later worked on it with PS CS3

Poison Ivy

Quite an old picture, from 2007. At that time there was this Poison Ivy craze going on in the art communities I was in, so I jumped on the bandwagon. I think it's the piece of art notes my transition from Photoshop 7 to Photoshop CS3 (I use CS5 now.)

Strychnine

PS7
...no ref.
I recorded a video of this, so i did this as a test, but im editing it(the original is 3 hours long o___o)..trying to edit it down to something like 20 minutes before i post..

but i'm too sleepy to right now...later, when I wake up I will

EDIT: oh no, I'm a total n00b at videoing thing...I think i've kinda screwed up, plus my computer doesn't have enough space for 8 GB AVI file :(...so captured four 5-minutes clips from different sections of the video instead

What Seems to Be the Problem?

"I understand the question, but what seems to be the problem?"

I've been wanting to do an Asian 'femme fatale' type, with a qipao and gun ina noir-ish setting for a while now. earlier attempts just failed! i couldn't get anything right. This is my third try(and no i dont' want to show what the earlier ones look like :P). She ended up looking Eurasian rather than Asian, though. Ah well.

EDIT cropped the top space, scaled the head up a bit as some of you have suggested (thanks!), print submitted

My Dearest

uhm.....i spent around 4 days straight painting this..or more? who knows. That's all i've been doing for the past I dunno how many days, haha, I have no life :p.

uhh...well, basically I (1) want to paint something Asian (2) am trying to not be afraid of colours :p. THis is perhaps the most saturated pic i've made. ehh. I almost cried at the embroideries!!! It's so frustrating!

I don't know how many of you are going to say "ooh this is like Louis with an Asian Claudia" etc. etc., well the truth is that I really really like the young girl + grown man motif that is most commonly represented/known by the Claudia+Louis relationship. heh

Jolene

Sisters of Mercy fan art (yup I dig Sisters of Mercy, you didn't know that, did you? ;)) , named after the song "Jolene" (yeah, yeah, I know, it's a Dolly Parton cover, but I like Eldo's version better, heh)

basically it's meant to be a quick one, though it took longer than I care to admit. Experimenting with a mix of styles here.

Marian

another piece in my Sisters of Mercy fanart series. "Marian", after my most favourite SoM song for a very long time. The hand's supposed to be Andrew Eldritch's, not that you can see the rest of his submerged body, but it is.

this took a few hours, longer than I had wanted it to be but shorter than I thought it'd take.

Marian, there's a weight above me
And the pressure is all too strong
To breathe deep
Breathe long and hard
To take the water down and go to sleep
To sink still further
Beneath the fatal wave
Marian I think I'm drowning
This sea is killing me

Six-fingered Albino Cyclops

A speedy I did for CGTalk Daily Sketch forum, the topic is 'Weird Tales'.

If you have known me from my old account, you may have remembered I posted a journal few years back that I dreamt that I was a six-fingered albino cyclops. I think what triggered that dream was that at that time I was living in London and was in THe London Underground one day and saw this guy, and he looked ...well, inhuman. His face looked like it's melted and he has no nose and no hair and no fingers. I think he's suffered a serious burn/scald injury or something, but anyway the immediate moment I saw him he totally freaked me out, so I hurried away to stand on the other side of the station. Poor guy was begging people for spare change, and everyone was ignoring him until someone gave him money, he, with stumps for hands, was struggling to hold the note between those stumps, and dropped them a few times before managing to gather it up and put it in his cap, and he went off. I've never seen him again.

The reason I want to paint this is well...I want to express the alienation of someone who is considered a freak. Plus, I am absolutely terrified of albino people...yeah, it's so irrational, but for some reason they scare the shit out of me. The girl in the picture is supposed to b e me, but I suppose she doesn't really look like me anymore....yeah, so I would be so freaked out if I woke up one day albino cylopped and six-fingered. I'm hiding under a burgundy cloak and in a dank corner of the Underground station because I've beeen alienated and chased and stones thrown at me(I have six fingers so people think I'm a Devil-spawn or something)....freaky lonely Kayness sniffle.

the drawing at 45 minutes [link]

UPDATE: IF you actually think I have six fingers - No, I don't...I have five fingers on each hand. I meant 'me' in the picture that has six fingers

All He Ever Wanted

Here's my answer to Tse Zhou's challenge! He asked me to paint something 'un-goth', and he's already done something 'goth' so I can't just say no! :O! It's so agonizing thinking up of something that Tse Zhou might deem as adequately un-goth, but I think this qualifies...(dominance of the colour pink, jeans, heart, non-black clothing...yes, doesn't it!???? *glares*)

no price for guessing who the guy is...(hint: he's a member of the Julio-Claudian dynasty)

everything's drawn/painted except for the bg which is pretty much photomanip + stampy brushes...the photo in the bg is by :iconasunder-stock:
